security preventing unauthorized access to your Centricity®
PHARMACY INFORMATION SYSTEM. By using Fingerprint Recognition
Computer technology, your pharmacy personnel have secure, fast,
flexible, reliable and easy access to the Centricity® PHARMACY
INFORMATION SYSTEM applications. These innovative biometric
computer peripheral devices let your fingerprints act like
digital passwords, replacing regular passwords that can be
forgotten, lost, shared or stolen.
The exponential
growth of patient security requirements and the rapid
digitization of the way we live and do business, have led to a
dilemma… We have too many passwords to remember! Naturally,
people find ways to deal with password overload that can
ultimately compromise the privacy and security of individuals
and your organization.
Biometrics is the measure of a
person's unique physical or behavioral characteristic.
Fingerprints are such a characteristic and have long been
accepted as unique identifiers. Today, fingerprint recognition
technology has emerged as the most popular biometric solution
for real security needs.
GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY
fingerprint recognition is the most affordable biometric
security technology available that is capable of meeting
professional health care requirements. GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY
integrates the Centricity® PHARMACY INFORMATION SYSTEM with
SecuGen® optical fingerprint scanning devices to offer a
dramatic increase in system security, ease of use and minimal
maintenance.
Using the Centricity® PHARMACY
INFORMATION SYSTEM interface and any one of the SecuGen®
optical fingerprint scanning devices legitimate system users can
quickly and easily register their fingerprint to create a
BIOMETRIC ID within GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY. Once registered as
an authorized user, login is as simple as entering a User ID and
placing the correct authorized finger on the optical scanner.

Security
GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY offers an authentication method
which is exponentially stronger and more secure than password
authentication. When using GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY your password
cannot be hacked, shoulder surfed, guessed, shared, sold, or
written down. Once the user has successfully registered with
BIOMETRIC SECURITY, the Centricity® application grants or denies
the user access to areas within the Centricity® application as
defined by the pharmacy system administrator.
CONVENIENCE
Centricity® users will gain the convenience of never having
to remember, or forget passwords. The combination of GE HEALTHCARE
BIOMETRIC SECURITY and SecuGen® fingerprint devices allows
for biometrically enabled single sign-on so that you can
biometrically authenticate when logging into the Centricity®
application. The convenience is particularly magnified when
passwords must be changed every 30-45 days, where passwords
cannot be words found in the dictionary, and they must be a
minimum of eight mixed alpha-numeric characters… a
challenge for anyone.
ELIMINATION OF PASSWORD
RESETS
With GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY, the means of
authentication is not something you know, like a password, or
something you have, like a token, or a combination thereof; you
are now the enabler because you authenticate with a physical
characteristic, your fingerprint. Unlike a password, this
physical characteristic can never be forgotten since you cannot
forget your fingerprint, therefore the password never needs to
be reset. Password resets, particularly in large facilities, are
costly as they can run into the tens of thousands per year. With
GE HEALTHCARE BIOMETRIC SECURITY password resets are a thing of the past,
saving you money and time.
PRIVACY ENABLER
Individuals within your facility who are concerned with
biometrics or do not understand biometrics may make statements
like "this is an invasion of my privacy" or "we
have to address the privacy issues surrounding this technology".
