HIPAA update - Medi-Cal NCPDP V5
BDM has just received notice from Medi-Cal (California
Medicaid) that they will be implementing V5 on April 29,2002.
Between April 29 and Oct. 1 they will accept either V3 or V5
claims - after Oct. 1 they will not accept V3 claims.
Just a reminder to upgrade prior to October 1st in order
to comply with NCPDP ver 5 formats.
Update on HIPAA release
In order to ensure that the required HIPAA online
adjudication NCPDP changes are installed and functional by October
1st, 2002 BDM must receive a signed upgrade quotation by no later
than June 1st, 2002. This will allow the correct resources to be
scheduled at both BDM and the customer site and provide the proper
time period to install the upgrade and train at the customer site.
Signed quotations or requests for the upgrade received after June
1st, 2002 will be accepted and will be done on a "best
efforts" basis to have it installed and live by October 1st,
2002.
Third Party Payer notes: - PAID, a 3rd party payer,
has announced that they will no longer accept V3 claims starting
September 28, 2002. Customers who submit claims to PAID after
September 27, 2002 must be live on RxTFC® 4.00
release in order for the claims to be accepted.
HIPAA/Third Party Payer Requirements for OLA
As you know BDM has been monitoring various third party
payers for information for their requirements with respect to the
HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
Standards for Electronic Transactions, the standards for
transactions and code sets. BDM has been proceeding with work to
make BDM's Online Adjudication Module compliant with the NCPDP 5.1
interface transaction specification as a basic requirement for
HIPAA compliance. This week we received information from the first
of the third party payers outlining more detailed requirements,
and we anticipate others to be sending us their requirements in
the very near future. Although the compliance deadline date stated
by HIPAA for compliance is October 16, 2002, the deadline dates
set out by individual third party payers will be earlier than this
date in most cases.
BDM has incorporated these HIPAA-related third party
payer requirements in to RxTFC 4.00. For those customers at RxTFC®
Release 3.01 or older, the upgrade path will be directly to RxTFC®
Version 4.00 due to be released June 1, 2002. BDM requests that
its customers be live on these releases by September 15, 2002 to
ensure compliance well in advance of mandatory requirements.

begin planning for the implementation of this software to enable
you to comply with these mandatory HIPAA requirements.
