ProMonitor is an advanced database monitoring tool, which extends the basic functionality of Promon, the Progress monitoring utility. Promonitor's extensions to Promon include: a history of performance statistics, an alert mechanism to warn of impending problems, and monitoring of multiple databases is simple.

Here is a summary of additional operations ProMonitor can perform:
  • Capture and store performance statistics in a PROGRESS database.
  • Can be run interactively or in batch mode.
  • Monitor multiple databases simultaneously from one screen.
  • Threshold Alerts can be set to warn of possible problems and bottlenecks.
    • Database thresholds such as low Buffer Hit Ratio or high Empty BI Buffer Waits.
    • User I/O thresholds. Identify user processes that generate excessive I/O.
    • Database Down Alert.
    • User Defined Alert Procedure. Example: could be used to call a pager if an Alert is generated by the ProMonitor system.
