GE MEDICAL SYSTEMS SIGNS 10-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS M. D. ANDERSON CANCER CENTER

30 October 2003 - MILWAUKEE – GE Medical Systems Information Technologies announced today that it has signed an agreement with the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Under the agreement, M. D. Anderson will license and install the GE Centricity® Pharmacy system (formerly BDM RxTFC® Pharmacy Management software) for 10 years and receive system support services for the advanced pharmacy information system.

M. D. Anderson will implement the Centricity software in all pharmacies throughout the campus to provide comprehensive pharmacy support services.

"We selected GE because of the technology’s clinical capabilities and the company’s proven track record for integration,” said Dr. Roger W. Anderson, vice president, Division of Pharmacy at M. D. Anderson. “With GE we plan to deliver a ‘next generation’ medical ordering system to help our clinicians with enhanced medication ordering.”

"M. D. Anderson’s decision to purchase Centricity Pharmacy is significant for GE," said Sunny Sanyal, vice president of Clinical Information Systems for GE Medical Systems Information Technologies. "M. D. Anderson marks the third of the nation’s top three cancer institutions to select and deploy the Centricity system, which indicates that our software is well on its way to becoming the standard for pharmacy information management in the world’s leading oncology facilities.”

Centricity Pharmacy provides key patient safety features of special interest to cancer patient care, including the support of extensive dose checking beyond that provided by drug databases, the tracking of lifetime dosing and an option allowing pharmacy professionals to predefine protocols for oncology treatment. Numerous oncology wards use GE’s Centricity Pharmacy in general hospital settings. However, M. D. Anderson joins an extensive GE pharmacy user group including some of the leading cancer institutions in the U.S and Canada.
